​Dear Members and Friends,

This year, the Jewish Center of the Moriches marks two extraordinary milestones: the 80th anniversary of our incorporation and the 60th anniversary of our beloved sanctuary building.

​

Before there was a building… before there was an incorporated entity… there was a dream.

​

Prior to 1938, Jewish families in Center Moriches gathered in one another’s homes for prayer and fellowship. Sometime after that, the original 10 men agreed that if Jewish life were to flourish here—not just for themselves, but for their children and grandchildren—it needed a permanent home. With vision, determination, and faith, they worked to create what would become our congregation. On December 24, 1946, that dream was realized when the Jewish Center of the Moriches was officially incorporated in New York State.

In 1950, these local Jewish farmers, merchants, and friends purchased a neighboring house to serve as their temple and communal gathering place. As the congregation grew, so did its aspirations. In 1966, after acquiring the adjacent land, they constructed the sanctuary building we proudly call home today—a sacred space that has sheltered decades of prayer, celebration, learning, mourning, and community.

We are the beneficiaries of their courage and commitment.
 

Our tradition teaches us L’dor Vador—from generation to generation. Those who came before us built for us. Now it is our sacred responsibility to build for those who will follow.

In honor of these remarkable anniversaries, we are proud to launch “Continuing Our Legacy—80 Years Strong—Securing Our Future,” our Anniversary Year of Giving campaign.

​

Funds raised will support needed building and grounds improvements, safety and security enhancements, and other investments that will help ensure our synagogue remains welcoming, functional, and secure—a place where Jewish life on Eastern Long Island can continue to flourish for at least the next 60 years and beyond. As costs continue to rise and the need for security measures becomes increasingly important, these investments will help preserve and strengthen our congregation so that future generations may continue to benefit from the dream and dedication of those who came before us.

Recognition Opportunities

 

As part of this campaign, we will offer meaningful recognition opportunities for individuals, families, businesses, and community partners. Donors will be acknowledged in our lobby and hallway areas and, unless they prefer to remain anonymous, will also be recognized in our anniversary celebration program at the following levels:

​

Community Circle — $500–$1,799

Chai Circle — $1,800–$4,999

Founders Circle — $5,000–$9,999

Legacy Circle — $10,000 and above

​

The Community Circle reflects the power of collective participation and shared commitment; the Chai Circle reflects the value of life and continuity; the Founders Circle honors those who first built our congregation; and the Legacy Circle ensures that Jewish life in the Moriches will endure for generations to come.

​

All donations are sincerely appreciated, and we encourage every member household to participate at whatever level feels comfortable and meaningful. No contribution is too small. Broad participation at every amount will be a powerful reflection of our shared commitment to L’dor Vador and to the enduring strength of Jewish life in the Moriches.

 

Our Anniversary Celebration

 

Throughout this anniversary year, we will host programs and special events reflecting on our history and celebrating our future. We are also planning a special anniversary service and celebration, scheduled for January 24, 2027, with a backup date of January 31, 2027. Details will be shared as plans are finalized.

We look forward to recognizing and thanking our Anniversary Year of Giving supporters as part of this special celebration.

Eighty years ago, a small group dared to dream. Sixty years ago, they built the space in which we still gather today. Now it is our turn—to preserve, to strengthen, and to invest in the future so that Jewish life in the Moriches continues with pride, warmth, and purpose.
